Dec 23 update.  Excellent FROGG response.  MPO received >70 emails. ... demonstrated widespread support for ROGG.  However, ROGG design project (east of CR92) is currently not included in draft of 5-year FDOT work program.

BUT GOOD NEWS:  ROGG design project for segment west of CR92 will take place a year earlier (2013/14 instead of 2014/15).  AND US41 improvements near Collier Blvd, which includes multi-use pathway is funded.

Dec 12.  Tell Collier County MPO to include new ROGG design project in FDOT 5-year work plan.

Collier MPO needs to know that regional pathways are important!  … otherwise, there is no future funding.

FDOT work plan for the next 5 years is pending endorsement by Collier MPO on Friday, Dec 14 (agenda item 7c).  However, the 5-year plan does NOT include funding for any new regional pathway projects.

We expected the work program to include $700,000 project for design phase of ROGG-west between SR92 and Marsh Trail.  This project was prioritized #1 for regional Transportation Enhancement (TE) Grants by MPOs of both Collier and Lee Counties in spring of 2012.

CONTACT COLLIER MPO colliermpo@colliergov.net AND TELL THEM:

Funding regional pathways projects is critical; non-motorized transportation projects are equally important as motorized transportation.

It is unacceptable that new regional pathways projects were excluded from 5-year FDOT work plan, and this should be rectified.

Regional pathways projects should take top funding priority if reallocation of FDOT funds becomes available.

Sep 1.  Follow-up to Aug 19 action-alert:

Gov. Scott decided that Florida would “opt out” of the federally funded Recreational Trails Program.  However, according to FDOT Secretary Ananth Prasad, commitments of $2.6 million were made towards Safe Routes to Schools and recreational trails (same funding level as previous year).
